Great article on the development of technology within cars and some of the risks that are faced and will be faced in the future.

However, I think the wider lesson here is that the same developments are happening across literally every device and object as more and more get connected and we move into the Internet of Things ("IoT").

A lot has been learned from more routine IT security and the measures companies must take to protect their infrastructure and data. And even there, there are numerous incidents being reported on an almost daily basis. This just goes to show how challenging a problem security is. It should never be taken for granted and should always be built in from the initial design phase of any project rather than being an afterthought!

These are lessons that IoT developers and producers must appreciate and implement in their ongoing development efforts. As we connect more and more devices to the Internet, it is not just our data that is at risk (valuable as that is) but it could easily be our lives.

That is not to say that IoT is a "bad" thing; just that proper precautions and safeguards should be built in, tested and verified from day zero!
