In 2019, Colombia saw a marked rise in their production and sale of crude oil, which appears to coincide with the free fall of Venezuelan oil sales and economy. If Colombia’s oil industry continues to grow under the Venezuela’s struggle, will the improvement of their economy assuage any support Colombia may offer in assistance to its neighbor?
Would there be any point where a regional neighbor would do more to ensure the continued success of their economy even if that was at the expense of the nation under turmoil and crisis?
Colombian crude has strengthened on the back of harsher restrictions against state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA, a self-imposed curtailment in Canadian production and output cuts agreed on by OPEC and its allies.
