Working in government is incredibly fulfilling, but increasingly frustrating. How we actually DO day-to-day government work is becoming a large part of the reason. The gap between how private sector organizations do their tasks and how government does them, is becoming wider and ever-more-obvious - and current and prospective employees notice. But, there are some very creative ideas developing - take a look at some of them here.
Government will have to catch up. Perhaps nowhere is the gap between the public and private sector greater than in workforce management. Most public-sector organizations are still locked into decades-old employee policies such as rigid job classifications, lockstep pay and a reliance on seniority as a substitute for capability.
