The city of Seoul, South Korea, is using blockchain technology in a precursive application to voting - online petitioning. If petitions are submitted and receive at least 1,000 'votes' of support (signatures), then the government is required to address them.
The government is using blockchain technology to make sure whoever is voting is who they say they are, and then to make sure they don't vote multiple times. This strikes me as a good, low-risk use of the technology to see if it works and can fit for online voting. Take a quick look & let me know if you think it's worth exploring in your government.
